The primary role of Amylin in the body is to regulate blood sugar levels and prevent sharp increases after meals, working synergistically with insulin. Additionally, Amylin slows stomach emptying, regulates appetite, and enhances the sensation of fullness after eating.

What scientific evidence supports the medication Cagrilintide?

The efficacy of Cagrilintide as a potential weight-loss treatment is supported by preliminary clinical studies, the promising results of which were recently published in the prestigious scientific journal *The Lancet*.

In a Phase 2 clinical trial, researchers aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Cagrilintide at five different dosages compared to liraglutide (the active ingredient in the obesity medication Saxenda) at a dose of 3 mg, as well as a placebo. Participants were adults (aged 18 and older) with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 or higher, some of whom also had hypertension or high cholesterol levels.

The 26-week study found that a weekly injection of 4.5 mg of Cagrilintide led to the greatest weight reduction, with participants losing an average of 10.8% of their body weight. In comparison, a dosage of 3 mg of Cagrilintide over the same period resulted in a weight loss of approximately 9%.

In another clinical study (Phase 1b), researchers compared the efficacy of semaglutide (the active ingredient in the weight-loss drug Wegovy, at a dose of 2.4 mg) alone versus its combination with Cagrilintide at three different dosages. The participants were adults aged 18 or older, with a BMI ranging from 27 to 39.9, and no underlying medical conditions. Besides taking the medication, participants were not required to follow a calorie-restricted diet or to increase their physical activity.

The results indicated that combining Cagrilintide with semaglutide (4.2 mg) was more effective for weight reduction compared to semaglutide alone. Specifically, the combination of 2.4 mg Cagrilintide with 4.2 mg semaglutide (Wegovy) resulted in the highest weight loss, achieving an average reduction of 17.1% of body weight.
